Twisted Metal: BLACK is a game that demands you to use all of the tools to your advantage, and it is a challenging game, my recommendation is to play this game on the easiest setting and focus on trying to practice against your enemies before bumping up the difficulty.
The goal of each stage is to beat the 8 contestants beside you, it never gets repetitive, it never becomes jarring, but it does become frustrating at times. The gameplay mostly consists in driving around a series of post apocalyptic scenarios, fantastical ones, and realistic ones, whilst shooting machine guns, missiles, and unique special attacks for each individual character, in order to destroy your enemies. Between loading screens you get to read different comments from each character adding further depth into the characters backstories, as well as their personalities. The premise relies on a character named Calypso which conditions the "correction" of each character's affliction to the completion of a competition.
The game has a diverse cast of characters all of which have tragic stories that are presented in three different segments, on one side the issue that afflicts the character, then the cause for such issue, and finally the resolvement. For options you get different levels of difficulty, easy, medium, and hard, the ability to change controls to three different presets, also exists, one of which I found to be quite comfortable for todays standards, and you can also get to setup, sound options, such as the level of music, and the ability to change the game's brightness level. From the moment you start the game it introduces its tone beautifully, it is dark, violent, and empowering, it is intriguing and you want to find more about what lies beyond the menu screen.
